The Story
Driven by a passion for real change.
Engage was founded by Dr Jodi O’Dell, an occupational psychologist and executive coach with a PhD in Coaching Psychology.
After two decades working globally with leading organisations, Dr O’Dell saw that most profiling tools stopped at self-awareness, they labelled people but didn’t show how to change.
Engage was created to bridge that gap, combining scientific rigour with practical coaching insight to turn awareness into measurable, lasting behaviour change.
The Science
Grounded in research. Proven in practice.
Engage is built on more than 15 years of research in evidence-based coaching psychology and behavioural science. Its algorithms and model have been scientifically validated for reliability, consistency, and predictive accuracy, ensuring that every insight is both robust and meaningful.
The framework draws on established psychological theories, including:
- Metacognition – understanding how people think about their thinking
- Self-regulation theory – how people manage emotions, focus, and behaviour
- Cognitive behavioural science – how beliefs drive actions
- Motivation theory – what activates or inhibits effort, energy, and engagement
- Attribution theory – how people interpret events and setbacks
Together, these foundations allow Engage to measure the mindset factors that influence real-world performance: confidence, openness, motivation, focus, adaptability, and readiness for change.
The Differentiator
Mindset over personality.
Most profiling tools identify a personality type, which offers broad descriptions but limited insight into what drives or blocks performance. Engage measures the state a person is in, the mindset factors shaping how they think, adapt, and perform.
A personality type is like knowing a car is a “sports car”, useful but incomplete.
It tells you the category and some predictable traits, but nothing about its actual condition:
- Whether the tyres are over or under inflated
- Whether the oil level is low
- Whether the engine is running efficiently
- Whether something is quietly restricting its potential
When you understand the state, you can create change and that’s where real performance begins.
Those internal conditions, not the type, determine how well it can truly perform.
Engage measures these internal conditions in people: the beliefs, attitudes, blind spots and patterns that influence how someone thinks, adapts, and behaves in real situations.
It shows what’s supporting progress, what’s holding it back, and what can change – giving individuals and teams a clear path to unlock potential that personality alone can’t reveal.

The Case Studies
Engage in Action: Real Stories of Change
Change and Transformation
Greater Manchester Police
The Challenge
“The tool brings something completely new and immensely useful — it provides strategic and cultural insight while supporting individuals to develop and adapt.”
The Approach
To strengthen leadership, drive inclusion, and support workforce development, over 500 officers took part in a range of behavioural change, talent, and diversity initiatives. The goal was to introduce an evidence-based approach to change and use data to guide strategy and development.
The Impact
Engage was used to measure mindset and readiness for change at the start and end of programmes. Insights were gathered across rank, gender, age, and ethnicity to identify barriers and enablers to performance. To build internal capability and ensure sustainability, 24 coaches were trained and accredited in Engage, creating a consistent and scalable framework for mindset feedback and development.
"Driving Cultural and Behavioural Change Across a Large Workforce"
Global FMCG Organisation
Building Change Leadership Capability Across a Global Finance Division
The Challenge
The business sought to drive transformational change within its global Finance division. They wanted leaders to become effective change ambassadors, able to plan for and implement change while understanding the behavioural components behind change readiness, resistance, and the role of storytelling. The goal was to equip Change Champions and Change Leaders with the skills, confidence, and mindset required to guide their teams through periods of uncertainty and transition.
The Approach
Delegates across nine global regions participated in a blended learning journey, including virtual classrooms, webinars, and face-to-face sessions. The programme introduced a suite of practical change tools designed to strengthen participants’ capability as change practitioners. All delegates completed the Engage mindset assessment, receiving individual development reports that highlighted their change readiness, specifically their Confidence, Openness and Impact. Each regional team also received a Change Readiness Team Pulse Report, enabling deeper insight into collective strengths, barriers, and opportunities for growth. Participants then joined peer-coaching groups to share learning and embed new behaviours.
The Impact
The programme delivered clear evidence of positive behavioural and mindset shifts:
• Increased self-belief and confidence in performing as a change leader
• Strengthened agility and willingness to adapt to new ways of working
• Improved resilience and resourcefulness when navigating uncertainty
• Greater ability to manage emotional responses to change
• Enhanced performance and feelings of success
• Noticeable positive shifts in mindset across individuals and teams
Participants reported feeling more empowered to lead themselves and others through change, with Engage providing actionable insights that translated directly into improved leadership impact.
Global Consulting Firm
Empowering Self-Directed Learning Through Mindset Awareness
The Challenge
A leading professional services firm wanted to give senior managers access to self-directed learning tools that build self-awareness and adaptability in a fast-changing environment.
The Approach
Over 300 participants completed the 10-minute Engage mindset assessment, receiving personalised reports identifying their drivers and barriers to change. Engage was embedded into existing leadership and development pathways, enabling managers to turn insight into action by exploring how mindset influences performance and decision-making.
The Impact
Participants reported significant improvements in self-awareness, confidence, and resilience.
• Awareness of how mindset affects work increased from 4.0 to 4.6
• Understanding of how attitudes impact performance increased from 4.2 to 4.6
• Confidence in making effective decisions increased from 4.2 to 4.4
Engage provided a scalable, evidence-based solution that made personal development more accessible, relevant, and measurable.
NHS Commissioning Support Unit
Assessing Mindset to Strengthen Leadership Capability
The Challenge
A large NHS Commissioning Support Unit wanted to build a structured, evidence-based development programme for its managers. Following significant organisational change and a historic under-investment in management training, there was a clear need to develop new leadership behaviours, increase self-awareness, and support managers in navigating a complex and evolving healthcare environment.
The Approach
Over 200 managers completed the Engage mindset assessment at the start of the programme. Each participant received a personalised development report outlining their mindset, areas of potential interference, and opportunities for leverage.
Delegates attended an Engage Induction Workshop, using their reports to shape reflective learning and personal development planning. This created a consistent, credible starting point for the six-month programme and encouraged participants to take ownership of their growth.
Engage provided a clear methodology, shared language around change, and a strong behavioural foundation that underpinned learning across all modules.
The Impact
Engage delivered significant benefits for emerging leaders, including:
• Increased self-awareness and personal insight
• Greater ownership of development and change
• Improved ability to identify inhibitors and leverage strengths
• A consistent, evidence-based framework supporting mindset and behaviour change
The Result
Engage provided tangible evidence of mindset shift:
• Confidence increased from 39% to 62%
• Inhibitors decreased from 50.8% to 15.7%
• Accelerators (strengths) rose from 19.2% to 47.1%
Leaders reported greater confidence, resilience, and resourcefulness in leading through uncertainty, and the organisation gained powerful insights to guide future development strategy.
“The combined reports provided a powerful tool for evaluating leadership growth and clearly showed the shift in confidence and capability.”
